March 26 - Email Newsletter - 2007

Booster Meeting - Thank you to those of you that attended out Booster planning meeting for the 2007-08 school year. Many of you volunteered to take on a role next year so THANKS. I have posted all of the board positions as well as non board positions on our website. Each job has a job description so you can read the details. If you are interested in volunteering for one of those positions, send me an email and we'll get you signed up. It would be great to have all positions filled by Mid April. It would be great to have all of our concession leads for next year lined up before summer vacation. http://whs.wsd.wednet.edu/Faculty/Athletics/supporters/supporters.html

Website Update - I have been making changes and additions to our website. Be sure to take a look.
1. Important Dates and Information ( I will update this weekly)
2. Panthers in College... it's amazing to see what our kids are doing.
3. Driving Directions - Thanks to Jo Lowe and Jan Dappen for creating directions to our athletic venues around the state. Great Job. If you find a correction or have a suggestion, let me know.
4. Spring/Summer Camp - All of our camp dates and links are there. Some are still being created, however, you can mark your calendar.

Spring Travel - Just a reminder that if you would like to bring your son or daughter home from an away game or if you have to transport your son/daughter to a team trip, you can get the departure from group form on our website. http://whs.wsd.wednet.edu/Faculty/Athletics/athleticlinks/athleticlinks.html

Student Support - Booster Club would like to expand it's horizon's and begin a committee to organize ways to provide student support. This committee would explore ways to connect athletes that are struggling academically with adults that can help them. oversee scholarship opportunities for athletes that can not afford athletic equipment. They could consider bringing in guest speakers to talk with our athletes about: nutrition, leadership, being a college athlete, etc. They could talk about the athletic code and how we can help our kids make good decisions, etc. This committee needs a chairman and a few folks willing to dive in and develop a plan .... email me if you are willing to be the chairman of this committee or a significant leader.

Thank You -
A special thanks to those parents that helped with our Ray Cockrum Relay this past Saturday and those of you that have signed up to help at our 2 remaining track meets.
Thank you to Kate Bratrude for taking the lead with our 07-08 Panther Booster Club. You are inspiring.
Thank you to Tammy Kintner, Janet Hill, Donna Scheumann, Sharon Osborn and Cheri Paine for helping on Spring Sports Picture day. I appreciate you.
Thank you to Tina Herron for volunteering to help out with concessions next year.
Thank you to Nancy Sealby for getting going on her Booster Club work for next year.

GO USA - Clothing
I met with Go USA last week about our spirit pack, booster club clothing and coaches clothing. We talked out our 1st year (good and bad) and made some plans for next year. They will provide us an on-line system for the 07-08 school year with a good deal of variety in our clothing options. I have asked for a youth section, high school student section as well as parent clothing. Booster Club and Coaches will continue to have an exclusive line of clothing. They will also unveil for us a "gift card" that can be purchased. It would be a great way to tell a coach thank you or to provide gifts for others. I look forward to giving you more information in the upcoming months. If you have feedback or ideas, please let me know.

Have a great spring break. Enjoy your time with family and friends. I hope we experience a good deal of sun and warmth.

Spring sports are underway. This weekend is our first round of competition for most of our spring sports. Schedules are on our website : http://whs.wsd.wednet.edu/Faculty/Athletics/Athletichome.html .I look forward to keeping you informed as events happen and announcements that are important for parents.

1. Spring Spirit Pack orders were sent in on March 4 and the first set of orders have arrived here in the office. The 2nd set of orders went in on the 14th and will arrive before spring break. If you still want to make an order, please have your information to our office before March 29 when we take off for spring break. You can order t-shirts, hats, sweats, sweatshirts and bags. Order forms were sent home with each athlete and more are available here in the athletic office.

2. If your son/daughter was on the "grade check" after last weeks mid-terms came out, remind them to come to my office every Monday to fill out the grade card. They return the card on Monday after school. If there are any grades to get cleared up, they can take care of it on Tuesday before Noon. By 3:30 on Tuesday or each week, the decisions are DONE for the week. Some kids wander into my office on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays either to do the grade care of to fix a grade that has raised. I find myself reminding them OFTEN that I make decisions on Monday and Tuesday only. The only exception is when athletes are sick/absent on Monday. Questions? Just ask.

Have a great weekend, I will send out another newsletter in a week or 10 days. I look forward to having open lines of communication.
