Student/Parent/Teacher Conference Models Student Led Conference – Student prepares and leads discussion following a script at meeting by appointment with Student, Student’s CP Advisor/Teacher and Student’s Parents/Guardians/Significant Adult in the teacher’s classroom/office/other defined location; Focus is on overall student strengths, progress, and goals in the domains of academics, personal/social/citizenship, and career exploration and development; conference schedule allows time for parents/guardians/significant adult to meet with specific class teachers as needed. Teacher Led Arena Style Conference – Student’s teachers prepare and lead discussion on drop-in basis with each student’s parents/guardians; all teachers sit at a central location or in respective classrooms; This is current WHS model; 2 days and 2 evenings of Conferencing with 10 minutes for each student’s parents; 12 hours or 720 minutes of conference time available; Divided by 10 minutes per conference equals a total of 72 student’s parents that could be seen by a teacher within this time DRAFT 5.28.08 WHS Student/Parent/Teacher Conference Committee Student Led Conference Purpose/Rationale Student Led Conferences are designed to achieve the following goals: Encourage students to accept personal responsibility for their academic performance and personal/social/citizenship choices, teach students the process of self assessment/evaluation and accountability, facilitate the development of students’ organizational and oral communication skills and to increase their self-confidence, encourage students, parents and teachers to engage in open and honest dialogue, increase student and parent attendance and participation at conferences, encourage increased parent involvement in student’s learning.
