REQUEST FOR RECOMMENDATIONS (8)
Your request may be made in person
or by phone....followed by our form!
In the Career Center you will find a buff colored sheet called The Request for Recommendation Form.
Local school personnel, offices, coaches, clergy etc. are accustomed to this sheet, which is designed to assist the letter writer, when completing his recommendation for you.
We suggest that you complete The Request for Recommendation Form 21 days in advance. This will enable the writer to put thought and time into writing the letter on behalf of you. It is also suggested that you request recommendations prior to Christmas break, so that writers aren't bombarded in the after New Years rush. Please be as detailed as possible in completing this sheet. The information that you write down on each side of the form, will make the difference in the amount of detail that the writer will communicate to the scholarship or admissions people about you! If you prefer to use an Activities Resume, in place of completing the back side of the form, a sample is available for you in the Career Center.
Generally the recommendation is sent with the application form and other required information in the form of a packet......see below for additional information regarding the application itself.
APPLICATION FORMS
Most scholarship and loan application forms are available in the Career Center, however, some you will be able to access online. In completing these forms, remember that accuracy and neatness are of prime importance. "Crossed out" words or erasures (unless very neat) should not be in evidence on the application. Special care in preparing applications often proves beneficial; enclosure of the application in a manilla envelope is encouraged. Applying for many scholarships enhances your chances of being awarded a scholarship.
DEADLINES
Deadlines of applications are absolute. Most organizations will not accept late applications. Please plan efficiently so that both your application forms and any required letters of recommendation are either early or on time. Please give your "letter of recommendation" writers ample time (at least 21 days) so your application is not jeopardized. Note: some deadlines state "postmarked" others "received by". Sending everything together will give you assurance that all will be received at the same time.
