Collection of Evidence

Collection of Evidence

The Collection of Evidence (COE) is a portfolio alternative to the HSPE exam.
How to Submit a COE
1) Take a COE class:
Applied Math: Math COE
Segmented Math: Math COE
Literacy Seminar: Reading & Writing COE
-or-
2) Students that want to submit a COE without taking the above courses, should see Mr. Lenard in the music office after 2nd lunch.
Note: While it is possible for highly-motivated students to complete a Collection of Evidence on their own, we recommend that most students complete a Collection of Evidence in one of the following classes with the help of a teacher.
Eligibility
Most Students: Must have taken the section of the HSPE that they want to do a COE for.
Out-of-State Students: Are allowed to submit a COE without having taken the HSPE or the test from their home state. See Mr. Lenard for details (there is a form to fill out).

Submission Times
February: Seniors and augmentations only.
1/15/10 -- Submission deadline to supervising teacher.
June: For everyone.
5/14/10 -- Submission deadline to supervising teacher.
May: Augmentations for seniors who made a February submission. The exact date is to be determined.

appeals
•A process for appealing a COE score should be in place by December 2009.
•Appeals are only allowed if the COE score is within the augmentation range (see “Augmentation” to the right).
•Students cannot appeal if they are augmenting a collection. They can appeal or augment, but not both.
•An appealed COE will be scored during the next submission window.
•Appeals are only COE score appeals. They are not intended to appeal graduation decisions.
