Mariachi Music Class

  

Course:

This class is designed to teach the Intermediate/ Advanced Level of Mariachi Music.  Students have the opportunity to learn violin, vihuela, guitar, guitarron, trumpet or voice.  Students will learn to sing and understand the fundamentals of music through, scales, key signatures, terms, theory, and basic rhythms in mariachi music.

  

Materials:

A limited number of instruments is available thought the Wenatchee School District for each individual student.  A school instrument requires a check out form that should be signed by a parent and returned to the school. There is no fee for the use of a school instrument. Serious Mariachi Students should consider purchasing their own instrument.

  

Practice:

Students must practice at least 30-45 min a day to participate in mariachi.

  

Performances:

This is a Performance class. Everyone is required to participate in performances, concerts or    shows. Schedule to be announced.

Missed Performances /Late Assignments:

No late work will be accepted unless due to illness or otherwise arranged with me. I do not accept make-up work resulting from an unexcused absence

Failure to Work Policy

First Concern:           Teacher will visit with student about concern.

           Second Concern:           Teacher will notify parent. 

           Third Concern:           Teacher will notify counselor.

           Fourth Concern:           Teacher will notify administration. Student will be removed until a  parent conference takes place and a contract is made.

           Fifth Concern:           Student may be removed from class with loss of credit and reduced schedule

Attendance

              Report to class on time.  If you arrive less than 10 minutes late, you are tardy.  After 10 minutes, you are considered absent.  Absences are considered unexcused until they have been cleared.  Absences can be cleared with a phone call from a parent, e-mail from parent, or a written note from the parent.  Clearing absences must be done within 48 hours.  Report with note to the Attendance Office before school, passing times, during break, lunch or after school.  DO NOT REPORT DURING CLASS TIME!!!

Note:

  1. Four tardies  =  One unexcused absence.
  2. If a student receives 6 unexcused absences in any particular class they may receive a shortened schedule and lose credit.
  3. Any student with 3 or more full day unexcused absences will be referred to the District Truancy Officer.

Attention!  

Once a student has had a Parent Conference (OPC) at any level of intervention they will not require another one unless the parent requests one to discuss the situation however, the student will still receive the 2 or 3 day suspension.

1.  Cuatro tardanzas  = Una ausencia sin permiso

2.  Si el estudiante recibe 6 ausencias sin permiso a cualquier clase puede recibir un horario reducido y no recibirá credito.

3.  Cualquier estudiante que falta la escuela 3 días o más completos sin tener permiso será referido al Oficial de Ausencias del Distrito

¡Atención!

Ya que un estudiante ha tenido una Conferencia de Padre (OPC) en cualquier nivel de intervención ellos no requerirán otro a menos que el padre solicite uno para explicar la situación sin embargo, el estudiante recibirá la suspensión de 2 o 3 días.

Mariachi Music Class and Student Expectations

1.    Come to Class on Time with all needed Materials, That is: your instrument, music and a

         pencil.

2.    Get your instrument out ready to play:

         a) Take your instrument out of its case

         b) Place your music and pencil on your stand

         c) Sit and Stay in Your seat

         d) Make Sure you have your pick and your bow has plenty of rosin

         e) Tune your instrument as best you can.

         f) Warm up, by practicing quietly                                                                     

 

**When we tune our instruments all Practicing and Talking immediately stops**

  

3.    There will be no talking in rehearsal without raising your hand and being recognized first

         by the director.

4.    Write in your parts, in pencil, what the director tells you

5.     No Homework, toys, games, CD/MP3 player, radios, ipods or cell phones are permitted in

         class.

  

6.    Practice outside of class 5 or more for per week a sufficient amount to be able to play your

         part with reasonable proficiency.

 

7.    Do not put your instruments away until instructed by your teacher. Instruments left in the

room must be in their case, securely latched and placed in the appropriate space on the rack.

 8. Adhere to all school and classroom procedures as they relate to class

  

 

Mariachi Traje de Charro/Uniform Contract

We understand that we are solely responsible for any & all parts of the Mariachi uniform that will be issued to you, by the Wenatchee High School Mariachi Program. We understand that the uniform must be kept neat clean, and pressed at all times, and that we must follow all care instructions.  We understand that the uniform issued to this Mariachi member must be professionally dry cleaned at the end of the School Year prior to returning the uniform by the announced date, and that the uniform, when returned, must be covered with the dry cleaner’s plastic bag and the pants and jacket must be on separate hangers.  We also understand that if any parts of the Mariachi Uniform are lost or damaged through misuse or negligence, we will assume total responsibility for any repair or replacement costs.   We also understand that the replacement costs are as

Mariachi Traje De Charro: $350, 3 Pieces, Pants, Jacket and Vest

Mariachi Wenatchee High School: Polo Shirt: $15

We have read the above information and agree to assume full responsibility for the Mariachi uniform and that we are issued.
