Northwest Mariachi Festival March 15-18,2006 Mariachi Festival and Workshops Wenatchee,Washington The Annual Mariachi Festival has a been a tradition in Wenatchee, Washington. The 8th Annual Mariachi Festival will take place on March 15th through March 18. The festival attracts about 300+ students into workshops in which they learn more about music from experts on the matter. Over 5,000 People Will attend this year event. This year, Mariachi Huenachi students from Wenatchee High School participated in the festival. The District Mariachi Program serves about 250 students from middle and high schools. In 1994 before the Mariachi Program started, Latinos students were underrepresented in the district music program. The Mariachi Program successfully gave Latinos the opportunity to participate in the music which is more familiar to them. Mariachi de Wentachee Valley College, is a group from the Wenatchee community and is formed primarily of former Mariachi Huenachi students. This year we have have Mariachi International de Mexico from California will be performing. Mariachi groups in the valley are attributed to the interest and commitment of the students as well as the program director. The Wenatchee School District also plays a big role in the program that contributes to the success of many students. The program also receives a great deal of support from the community businesses and specially from the Mariachi Booster Club which has only three years in service. This parent group met weekly in order to help plan for the Mariachi Festival.
