Course Description:

Welcome to British Literature!  In this semester-length course we will survey over 1,000 years of classic literature from the British Isles, including Britain, Ireland, and Scotland.  This historic review will include readings from the Anglo-Saxon and Medieval periods, the Renaissance, Restoration and Enlightenment, the Romantics, the Victorian Age, and the 20th Century.  Through the literature and varied writing assignments, students will explore issues that were central to each time period and therefore influenced the writings of their day.  In addition, the class will examine how the themes and ideas that were important throughout the history of Britain have shaped our own society and remain relevant for us even now.
