Project: Increasing Seagull Population

Contact Name: David Hastings (dave_hastings@everett.wednet.edu)

School: Everett High School

Date Completed: Spring 2005

Details: A mock news show was used to present information on the problem of an increasing seagull population, especially around their school and the local waterfront area. Videos of "on-the-spot reporters" were included in the "broadcast". The main concern about the seagulls is that bacteria &endash; e-coli and salmonella have been found in some places in the world in seagull droppings &endash; could begin to contaminate beaches and docks or contribute to the creation of dead zones in the bay. They also mentioned how annoying the gulls are to humans, especially their waste. They concluded by going over current and possible solutions to this problem.
