Project: Eruption of Mount Rainier

Contact Name: Madeline Merriman (mmerriman@tacoma.k12.wa.us)

School: Foss High School

Date Completed: Fall 2005

Details: A group of eight students rotated in smaller groups to present different aspects on their research into the effects on their local area of an eruption of Mount Rainier. They used posters, a model that could simulate an eruption and possible lava flow, and showed items that could be part of a survival kit that all people should keep on hand for emergency preparedness. The group was well-practiced and moved smoothly between each section of their presentation. They included a discussion of the health risks that would be involved if there were a volcanic eruption.
