Many tools are used to give poetry (or other forms of literature) a visual and/or musical quality in order to communicate ideas, emotions, moods, and abstract concepts more effectively.

Poetry is a word dance that can be as energetic as the flaminco or as elegant as the waltz. Thought-provoking themes walk slowly and deliberately across the parchment; whereas, whimsical verse skips around the page with laughter and light-heartedness.

Below are some of poetry’s most well known devices.

Fall Leaves

On the unsuspecting, fall sneaks up silently,

Challenging life with crisp, tingling morning air.

Frosty breath-clouds create momentay messages

Reminding unassuming minds of their folly.

The anticipated continuance of comfortable days

Recedes with sudden abandon and dismay

When confronted by shimmering hoary edges

of fallen golden-hued leaves burnt by sun's rays.

Leaves and grass crunch as feet advance,

And paths remain in ghostly formation

Upon lawns blest by the glimmer

Of morning dew's frozen appearance.

Swinging Tree

Summertime slides quietly by as if by solumn decree that no one day be held in vanity's selfish grasp.

Sunbright mornings eagerly entice lazy minds to discover one or more delightful excursions from the myriad of reveries available under a fleece sprinkled azure heaven.

Endeavors, eagerly begun, slow with the rising pace of the sun's increasing pressure.

Resting, now, beneath a cooling shade the day's agenda begins its meandering into the fog of memory while the momentary tranquility of the moment rests quietly upon the mind.

Summertime slides quietly by as shades of gold, rust, and red begin to paint themselves upon the canvas of the evening sky with miraculous ease for anyone to enjoy.
