LEADERSHIP

At WHS, we are committed to provide leadership training and experiences for ALL students. Current leadership programs include conferences in the traditional sense, along with a conference targeted at under-represented students. An important leadership program we are developing is a community-mentor program, where WHS students and community members work together. By developing a relationship with an adult in the community, the students gain knowledge and experience to help their transition from student to contributing citizen.

Amanda Watson, senior, works with Jason Carter, senior, preparing for the choir's Broadway Bound concert on Feb. 28. Watson was chosen by Dan Jackson, choir director as the producer of the event.

Senior Katie Pitner and junior Cynthia Vasquez work on a story for the Apple Leaf, the student run paper at WHS. Apple Leaf is printed once every three weeks, and allows students to comprehend the newspaper design process and take charge. The Apple Leaf has covered several debatable issues, resulting in numerous awards, including the 2001 National Impact Award for an issue including a forum of students speaking on controversial issues.

Junior Dominick Manetti, seniors Boet Waldbjorn and Robert Griffiths, and sophomore Peter Ezetta work the sound boards at a Pep Assembly. The C.R.E.W. manages lighting and sound at many WHS events, including assemblies, dances, and other activities. All of the work is student led.
