It was said that the use of Omni Anderson Knee Stabler (O.A.K.S.) Knee Braces, on injured athletes caused more injuries than it prevented. The O.A.K.S. knee brace, was also accused of slowing sprint speeds and decreasing agility skills.
To test these theories ten subjects, four men and six women, who had no previous injuries to take part in a study. All of the participants had to meet a certain criteria for body weight, height, and body fat percentage as controls. Each subject was video taped from two different angle while they ran on a treadmill.
During the study it was determined that the slight change in the gait cycle was so small that wearing the O.A.K.S would probably not cause injury, but may slow down some athletes.
