1.   ACTIVITIES RESUMÉ--This type of resumé is used for scholarships, in requesting recommendations etc.

During your high school years you will be involved in activities outside and inside of school.  These activities are a result of your values, skills, interests and goals etc. Your activities will show your committment, priorities, talents etc.  They are not required to be solely organized activities such as Scouts or Golden Apple Band.  What takes your time, in or out of school, may be a reflection of your talents. Your hobbies may be included especially if they relate to your goals. Your activities will contribute to the overall picture of who you are!

They may help to prepare you for your future as contributing factors.  For example, if you have an interest in becoming a nurse you may choose to involve yourself in volunteer work such as the Red Cross Blood Drive, Health Occupations classes, Sports Medicine, volunteering to assist with vision and hearing screenings etc.

An ACTIVITIES RESUME is a manner inwhich you may display your collection of activities in written form.  This document may be used when communicating to scholarship committees, colleges, vocational schools, and your letter of recommendation writer.  It may also be used as an artifact for your Culminating Project.  It will come in handy for you!

You may begin building your ACTIVITIES RESUME by either journaling your activities pen and paper or using the WOIS Portfolio system. (Washington Occupation Information System, wois.org, is accessible anywhere you have internet access.  As you move on from high school to college or the workforce, it may transfer with you.  Each year WOIS upgrades its' site and we are given new site key access codes.)

Below you will find a sample of an ACTIVITIES RESUME.  You may change the formatting, catergories etc. to match your needs.  The overall goal is to give a snapshot view of who you are, your goals and what you have done to get there! Hard copy samples available in the Career Center.

PERSONAL STATEMENT/ESSAY (aka extended insight resume)

3. JOB RESUMÉ -- This type of resumé is used when seeking employment.  This type of resumé shows your history of paid work experience, your volunteer work experience, your interests, perhaps a list of references etc.

You may create or build your own resumé in a variety of ways:

          A.   In the Career Center we have a hard copy workbook, "RESUMES", that guides you step by step through the process of creating a resume.   This booklet is especially convenient for those who do not have the internet or for those students who would like a more thorough explanation of resume writing.

          B.  We also encourage the use of the WORD method of building a resume.  Locate the WORD resume templates, filling in the information requested with your own personal data.  To acheive this you may want to first list those items that you have participated in using the Resume Worksheet found here-- Resume Worksheet.doc

          C.  If you would like to continue to update your resumé throughout high school with the activities, jobs, awards that you are involved in we would encourage you to access your WOIS Electronic Portfolio* and create a resumé and cover letter.  You will need to come to the Career Center to receive the Wenatchee High School  site key for WOIS for this year.  (it may not be published online)   wois.org

(A note concerning the *WOIS Electronic Portfolio-- all freshman at WHS participate in a career unit through their English classess in collaboration with the counselors.  They assist students in the use of WOIS--Washington Occupation Information System.  At  this time the students create their own WOIS Electronic Portfolio.  Within this E-folio, students may easily store their community service, paid job experience, awards, honors etc.  By habitually entering these items you will be ready to write your resumé for jobs,  write a cover letter, and use it for a Culminating Project artifact.  Entering your activities is a good habit to have! Many colleges and Workforce also use the WOIS website)

Please see the sample below.  Sample Resume
