Wenatchee High School is a four year comprehensive public school with a population of 1975 students. Ethnically we serve a mix of students: 71% who are Caucasian, 27% who are Hispanic and 2% who are Asian, Native American, or Black-American. The high school is located in Wenatchee, a rural central Washington community of about 45,000 people. It is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and certified by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Washington state.
State and National Recognition
In 1987, Wenatchee High School was selected by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction as one of ten outstanding high schools in the state of Washington. Wenatchee High School was selected in 1986-87 by the United States Office of Education as one of the 170 high schools in the nation to receive the School of Excellence designation through the National Recognition of Excellence program. In 1990-91 and again in 1996-97, Wenatchee High School was one of 6 secondary schools in Washington State selected as a Blue Ribbon school for excellence in education and was a national semi-finalist.
The scholastic year is divided into two 18-week semesters, each containing two 9-week grading periods. Students are required to enroll in 6 classes each day, except seniors, who may register for 5 classes. Some students may take 7 classes with special permission. Classes are 55 minutes in length and meet five times a week. The average class size is 27 and the average teacher load is 145 students per day when computed on a full time equivalency basis.
Over 200 class offerings are presently available for students. These offerings include a range of college preparatory, vocational and remedial classes. Special features include: Advanced Placement classes in English Lit, US History, calculus, chemistry, physics and biology; advanced foreign language classes; microcomputer courses; a variety of literature offerings; math through calculus; advanced music including instrumental, choral, and orchestra; student leadership class; and a variety of science courses.
Vocational programs exist in business education, marketing, graphic arts, agriculture, horticulture, power mechanics, drafting (AUTOCAD), applied math, applied technology, home and family living, sports medicine, health occupations, and work experience programs. In addition, students have the opportunity to attend the Wenatchee Valley Skills Center for half the day. The skills center offers training programs in a variety of areas including automotive technician, computer networking, DigiPen computer science, bilingual translation, and cosmetology. Also, junior and senior students can access Running Start and take classes at Wenatchee Valley College for high school and college credit.
Remedial offerings include a comprehensive reading program, study skills, and a full range of special education courses, including adaptive PE and job training for the disabled. Several bilingual classes are offered in addition to our three levels of English as a Second Language.

34% of the seniors attend a 4-year college directly after high school. 40% attend community college or voc-tech schools directly after high school.
