INTERVIEW & INFORM
SPEECH
OBJECTIVE: The objective for this assignment is
two-fold. The first part of the
assignment is to have you find a person who is worthy in some respect of being
interviewed. Also involved in this part,
is the development of appropriate and meaningful questions that bring out the
uniqueness of the person being interviewed.
The second part includes the organization of the data for an informative
speech to the class about the person you interviewed. Hint: Many informative speeches about people
follow a chronological pattern as well as a thematic pattern: early life,
college, adult life.
STEPS TO THE SPEECH...
1. Choose an appropriate
person to interview, which does not include fellow prop/speech students and
should limit many of your personal friends unless they are extremely talented
in some respect. Interview a person who
has led a full life with many experiences and will be interesting to you. If you’re not interested, how can we be
interested in your speech? Examples of
people to interview may be: a grandparent who was in a war, a cousin who is an
Olympic athlete, a famous aunt or uncle, or an acquaintance who has some
special talent.
2. Create a list of at
least twelve various questions (i.e. open, closed, neutral, etc) to ask your interviewee. Use these items to
create a roadmap of your interview which will help you organize your speech.
3. Try to schedule and
complete your interview as soon as possible because that is the most critical
part of the speech process. Speeches will begin ________________ .
4. This is a formal speech
and will be graded with more scrutiny than the first speech. The speech has a
minimum time of three minutes and a maximum time of seven minutes. Please come
prepared and well organized!
