- The introduction of a speech is very similar to an introductory
paragraph.
- Grab the listeners attention
- Introduce the topic and importance of the topic
- Preview the main ideas of discussion through a verbal outline (state
your thesis)

- Promise something benificial
- Make them laugh (be sure your joke or pun is really funny)
- Energize your audience

- You have the audience attention
- They know you topic and the importance
- They know your main points through the verbal outline (thesis)
- Build on the three or more main points that you discussed in your verbal
outline.
- These should be full and complete topics that build the speech. No
random thoughts and scattered ideas.
- Transition each main point as you would a body paragraph in a paper.

- Summarize your speech and the highlights
- Wrap it up with some words or wisdom or a purpose for the speech
