Mini Research Project

This project is a quick, but important research project to help you understand the fundamentals of documentation in the Social Sciences. This can be extremely different than many other types of documentation. The goal will be the correct usage of a bibliography and footnotes/endnotes.

The process…

  1. Think of a specific and narrow topic to research. This should be something that sparks an interest with you in some way such as details of the Monroe Doctrine, or the issues of Bleeding Kansas. Do not choose topics that are too broad like The Civil War or Jacksonian Democracy.
  2. Then spend some time researching this topic in books, encyclopedias, and the Internet.
  3. Begin attacking the assignment

Title Page: Title, name, date, teacher, class

Paragraph One: Explain why you chose this topic and why it was appealing to you. Also, explain what you learned about this topic that you didn’t otherwise know.

Paragraph Two: Summary of the historical event. This should be in third person, past tense, and should include two quotes that are fully footnoted. This may end up being more than one paragraph.

Paragraph Three: This is an argumentative paragraph about some aspect of your topic. You must take a stance that can be argued and have three pieces of concrete evidence to support your claim.

Bibliography: Full bibliography with a minimum of three entries and one must be a book.
