"1999-2000 Golden Web Awards"
Award final 10/18/99 11:21:18 am EST and provided by:
All web sites are voted on by the Association members. All I.A.W.M.D. decisions are final. Congratulations! Your web-site has been reviewed and chosen to bear the 1999-2000 Golden Web Award.
Sounds great doesn't it? Well, as with most awards these days if you submit to them they will award you with some kind of groovy image. With this group, we could get a cool certificate... if we pay them. In fact, if you are willing... you can buy almost any award and put it on your web site. While this is one of those cheesy awards that look good the rest of this page is real and earned. I'm proud of my students efforts on our web site.
Digital Camera Network honored us with this award on 25 March 98. "Sharon" from DCN found our page and chatted with my 1st period freshmen. And as a result of posting us on their website our server has been hit pretty hard with live camera requests and YAK requests. My students have been chatting live with people all over the world thanks to DCN's awarded. Thanks!!! Here is a screen shot of their site and what they had to say. The Wenatchee High School site features a map of the building, an alumni page, photos of the Aug, 30 Saddle Rock fire near the school and other school information. It also has a 'ScienceCam,' located appropriately in the classroom of teacher Gary Lorenson, who edits the page."

I graduated from WHS and was checking out the page. I think it looks great but there is no information on the School itself ie.. clubs, student body, current events, etc..
I am not sure if you are a student or a programmer, but you should get the students at WHS to start creating some pages to represent their clubs and what is going on at the High School. All the links I found were to outside sources or gopher menus...
The background is cool, just thought I'd let you know what I thought.

Hi Andy,
Just wanted to let you know how impressed we are with your Home Page. I can't even imagine all of the hours it must have taken to get started in the first place, not to mention all of the hours it must take keeping everything new and updated!
My husband is a High School Marketing teacher and will be co-sponsoring a computer club at our local high school (St. Cloud High School in St. Cloud, Florida). He has been browsing through pages presented by other High Schools in the country and found yours. He was so impressed that he got me to visit your page. You have so many great links that I found myself on a very pleasant "cybertrip", visiting many new places. I had a great time.
Again, we think your page is great and you show great promise for a rewarding future!

Now don't run away, but I'm a teacher...and I have some questions for you... :-)
I am the Technology Specialist at St. Cloud High School in St. Cloud, FL and we are trying to set up a home page on the internet...actually a couple of teachers and me are trying to get the students involoved in this...some of the faculty has absolutely no clue what we are talking about....
Any advice or help you can offer would be great...we saw (and printed) the Wenactchee High School homepage as one to go in our file of samples...things to look at and consider.
Where we need help is in the creation of the page...how did you do it? What equipment do you use? How much time did it take? All those kind of start up questions....
I realize you may not have time to answer the questions, and I realize you are a student so you're probably busy doing your homework (that's why you're checking your email...)...but if you have a minute, we'd appreciate any help you can give.
Tahnks!

Just surfing the internet and found WHS and found your name. Twenty-eightyears of service to WHS. Excellent. I'm enjoying the teaching andresearch here at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Judy is teachingsecond grade. My son, Kevin, who was in first grade while we were inWenatchee, is now a teacher and head BB coach at Sunnyside HS, so we getout to the wild west quite often to see the grand kids. It has been a fewyears (25) since back at old WHS. Do you see Tom Byrne? How is JackBranter doing? How about Bob Eller? Boy, that is a few years ago. Hi There,
Wenatchee High School being my alma mater, it is nice to see you on-line. I graduated in 1961 so that was many a year ago. In the old building down by Delaware Street.
Anyway I like your site. It seems to run very slow, so I was curious as to what you are using ? I also could not get mosaic to talk to you. Had to download netscape. don't quite understand that because Mosaic should be able to recieve you well.
Can you tell me If Mr. Paul Pugh is still associated with the high school and if so does he have an e-mail address. We are old friends. I participated in his Circus when I was in High School.
I've heard that the town has changed considerably since I lived in it. What is the population now ?
Keep up the good work. I'm very pleased to see you keeping abreast of the technology. Times have certainly changed. Take a look at our homepage. http://www.stsc.hill.af.mil/ we cater specifically to the Electronics Engineering domain. A very narrow scope. Our purpose is to help technology insertion within the Air Force.
Tell the kids in 1959 when I took typing class at the school all the boys and most of the girls laughed at me. If they could only see me now. How thankful I am that I took that opportunity to learn the keyboard. It has been a definite carreer enhancement.
Thanks Much

I was cruising the net & found myself on the Wenatchee High home page. This should not have startled me, but I tend to think of WHS in terms of when I graduated from there in '68 and not in terms of high-tech and web pages.
Actually, '68 was long enough ago that they have even torn down the WHS buildings that I attended. I doubt if any of the teachers I had are still around but some might remember my mother - Doris Kirkpatrick - who was the head of the WHS art department up until around 10 or 12 years ago.
Anyway, thought you might want to hear from an alumn who is in the computer industry (yet another small, software startup). If any of your students are interested in what it is like out in the "real" software world, drop me a line - I'd be happy to help out.

Dear Gary,
My name is John Thompson, I'm in Sydney, Australia. I've been admiring the Wenatchee High School site. I'm heading to Lake Wenatchee as a counsellor on the YMCA Camp...I assume it's nearby. I read the news on the radio in Sydney...the station is called 2BL, it's the flag ship radio station for the ABC (the Australian Broadcasting Corporation). As you can probably imagine, we're all a little subdued at the moment after the massacre at Port Arthur near Hobart, in Tasmania. I was reading the news the day it happened - it's had an enormous impact on us here. Anyway, I can't wait to see your part of the world - I'll be there from the 16th of June. I guess it must be coming up to end of school year and exam time. Good luck, if that's the case. Over here, the weather's getting a little cooler and our school year isn't even half way through. Hopefully you'll get this message - I'm not exactly what you'd call an Internet surfie type, nor all that computer literate, but here goes.
Cheers John.

I'm curious as to whether the school needs anything in the way of technology. I have alot of odds and ends laying around that might be of use to you guys which are no longer of use to me. For instance an Apple QuickTake 100 digital camera, and oh, maybe one or two old Macs. I'm not sure what school district policy is with regard to donations from the outside. But I figured I'd offer up the bait and see if anyone bites. Thanks for your time!

I guess I didn´t get to know you, maybe because I didn´t take any science classes. Anyway I´m so excited about looking your web. Right now I attend the third year of industrial engeniering at the University of Sonora in Mexico.
Two years ago I made a lot of friends, like my spanish teacher Mrs. Long. Would you e-mail to me and let me know about her?, because I went to Wenatchee this past summer and I didn´t get to see her.Oh!! I forgot to tell you I went to Wenatchee last summer as I said before and stayed with my host family (when I was a Foreing exchange student) "The Kelloggs". It was great!!!. Wenatchhe is the best, even when I just went back I still miss all that.
It's so nice writting to someone from Wenatchee High. Thank you for listen to me. I Hope I'll hear from you soon.
Bye,Bye
Annette.

Hey there!
You good friend Matt Drew here from WSU. I just punched WHS up in ALta Vista, and got the official WHS Websight. COOL STUFF!
I'm a senior and graduating here in May in the Edward R. Murrow school of Communications with a degree in advertising and a minor in english.
I'm also in a rock n' roll band called Velvet Crush (CD to be out by march. . . hopefully).
Anyways, I'd better be out of here. I miss the place. I'll have to stop up and see you when I get back for thanksgiving.
Hope all is well!

I would just like to take a moment to thank you, the students and teachers for providing this sight to the public. I wouldn't get muchnews from the Wenatchee area otherwise. I enjoy visiting my old schooland folling links to town and state events. It's like bringing a partof Wenatchee to Minot, ND. Keep up the good work!
Thanks
Dave

Gary:
Was surprised to get responses to my 3 messages. Didn't think you would be back there to check the system till the middle of August. Thought you would be out enjoying the summer without the students. I wrote those messages yesterday as I came upon something during my 1st half hour on the site. I ended up spending about 3 hours on your site going over nearly everything. It was very enjoyable.
A belated, but very hearty congratulations on the site getting the Discovery Channel Feature School award. It is well deserved. I enjoyed reading all the old Kudos and the article about the exchange teacher from Australia. All very interesting.
From what I have seen on the site, I am sure that I would enjoy being a student in your classes. And for somebody that hasn't been in a classroom for about 40 years except for my childrens parent-teacher conferences that would really be something. Math, Science (not biology though), History (after 1860) and Geography were my favorite subjects in school. Hadn't really thought about it before, but it fits in with my military career as a Navigator in the USAF - used the Math, and Geography quite extensively along with a lot of the Science in that job.
Thanks for bringing back all the memories for this 1951 WHS grad and a belated thanks to all my teachers for their dedication and care over the years. Sorry that not very many of them are around any more too hear it.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and have a great school year. I'll check the site periodically from here on out as a way to keep up on Wenatchee from California.
Yesterday, I stated in one of the messages that I thought the site was great. As I mentioned earlier, I spent a lot of time on the site after sending that and would like to change the grade to FANTASTIC!!!
